Text Lights Wow.

The £150 lights can be used by family members in foreign countries to let people know they are available to chat, or by the elderly to let their family to know when they've gone to bed and woken up For a family spread around the world, it could be a great way to feel connected. A London designer has unveiled the 'Good Night Lamp', a series of connected nightlights that can let family members instantly see if their loved ones are asleep or awake.The Internet-connected lights are controlled by a master light, known as the 'big lamp' with art, poetry, interactive person.
Alexandra Deschamps-Sonsino, the designer of the light said his firm has already received backing.
Several investors hopes the lamps could go on sale within months. It hopes to produce the lamps and also covers which can be used to customise the 'little lamps'. The firm plans to develop the idea by adding Internet connections to other products, in a movement dubbed the 'Internet of Things'.

So family members can instantly see if their loved one is awake 'With more and more people living alone, and the vast majority of households having broadband, the Good Night Lamp allows you to develop an ambient sense of presence with the people you care the most about, wherever they are, said Alexandra Deschamps-Sonsino, the designer of the light. Flying Europa to Mars.

Europa is the sixth closest moon to Jupiter and the smallest of the four Galilean satellites that belong to the planet. The report was compiled by Professor Mike Brown, an astronomer at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, California, and Kevin Hand from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, also in Pasaden. The exchange between the ocean and the surface, Professor Brown said, ‘means that energy might be going into the ocean, which is important in terms of the possibilities for life there.  ‘It also means that if you'd like to know what's in the ocean, you can just go to the surface and scrape some off.’ Europa's ocean is thought to cover the moon's whole globe and is about 60 miles deep under a thin ice shell.
It was discovered by Galileo Galilei in January 1610 and is named after a Phoenician noblewoman in Greek mythology who was courted by Zeus and became the Queen of Crete. Europa orbits Jupiter in around three-and-a-half days with an orbital radius of 670,900km. It is slightly smaller than the Earth's moon, but at 3,100km in diameter it is the sixth largest moon and 15th largest object in the entire solar system.
It is likely to have an outer layer of water, some 100km thick.The outer layer of the water is believed to be frozen with a liquid ocean underneath. It is one of the smoothest objects in the solar system with few craters on its surface, which is tectonically active and relatively young. Salty water from the huge liquid ocean beneath Europa's frozen surface makes its way to the moon's surface, scientists believe. The scientists also believe the composition of Europa's ocean may closely resemble the salty ocean of Earth. Europa is considered a premier target in the search for life beyond Earth, Mr Hand said. A NASA-funded study team is working with the scientific community to identify options to explore Europa further. ‘If we've learned anything about life on Earth, it's that where there's liquid water, there's generally life,’ Mr Hand said. ‘And of course our ocean is a nice, salty ocean. Perhaps Europa's salty ocean is also a wonderful place for life.’
Underground oceans could be bubbling up to the surface of Jupiter's icy moon Europa, scientists believe - making it the perfect place to look for life. A new paper has detailed the strongest evidence yet that salty water from the huge liquid ocean beneath Europa’s frozen surface actually makes its way to the moon’s surface – reinforcing suggestions that there could be life on Europa.
The research suggests there is a chemical exchange between the ocean and surface, making the ocean a richer chemical environment. Scientists have long debated the composition of Europa’s surface. Now, using the Keck II Telescope on Mauna Kea, Hawaii, Professor Brown and Mr Hand have identified indications of the presence of a magnesium sulphate salt, a mineral called epsomite, that could have formed by oxidation of a mineral likely originating from the ocean below. The researchers started their study by mapping the distribution of pure water ice versus anything else. Then, at low latitudes - the area with the greatest concentration of the non-water ice material - they found a tiny, never-before-detected, change in the results. The two researchers tested everything from sodium chloride to Drano in Mr Hand's laboratory where he tries to simulate the environments found on various icy worlds. At the end of the day, the signature of magnesium sulphate persisted.

Radio telescope antennas art of the ALMA (Atacama Large Millimeter and Sub millimeter Array) project, in the Atacama desert, some 1500 km north of Santiago, on March 12,2013. The secret to the $1.3 billion facility's incredible resolution comes from two factors. height and distance. ALMA's highest receivers sit on a plateau some 16,500 feet (5,000 meters) above sea level.
This is far above most of Earth's atmosphere and water vapor, which obscures observations.  Astronomers working in ALMA's facility at 9,500 feet (2,900 meters) must use supplemental oxygen for extended stays. The system currently comprises about 50 functional antennas. When the array is finished, there will be 66 of these receivers that can be moved as far as 9.9 miles (16 kilometers) apart. The antennas capture astronomical signals from the sky individually, then combine their results in a supercomputer to get precise information about where the signals come from. Researchers say it is similar to how we use our two ears to locate sounds around us, but on a universe-size scale.
This high resolution not only lets ALMA observe young planetary systems, but also pin down hydrogen and other life-building blocks in gas clouds. Built deep in the Chilean desert, in one of the driest places on Earth, ALMA is at an altitude of 16,400ft ¿ roughly half the cruising height of a jumbo jet and almost four times the height of Ben Nevis. The array can also track the evolution of galaxies. It looks like it belongs in a science fiction film but this ‘time machine’ could provide us with the facts about where we came from. To be switched on tomorrow, the Atacama Large Millimeter Array, or ALMA, is the world’s most powerful telescope.  It is also the highest on the planet and, at almost £1billion, the most expensive of its kind. Under test: A spectacular sunset view of three prototypes of ALMA antennas, developed by Japan, North America and Europe, respectively, at the ALMA Test Facility (ATF) in Socorro, New Mexico, USA.
But while the site promises good scientific results, the setting on the edge of the Andes poses difficulties for those who work there. To keep altitude sickness at bay, as much work as possible is done at a control centre on lower ground.
Visits to the telescope site are kept as short as possible and workers carry oxygen tanks. A spokesman  for the European Southern Observatory, which co-ordinates the European investment, said: ‘ALMA contributes profoundly to the satisfaction of curiosity, not just of the professional researcher, but of the child who looks at the sky full of stars and wonders what they are and what part of the universe we occupy.’ World's largest telescope will finally be turned on tomorrow. Rather than one single telescope, it is made up of 66 giant antennae which gather faint radio waves from space for processing by a supercomputer. Under construction: Four of the first ALMA antennas at the Array Operations Site (AOS), located at 5000 metres altitude on the Chajnantor plateau, in the II Region of Chile. The full telescope of 66 antenna is set to be switched on tomorrow after a decade of construction.
Costing £950million to build, including around £65million from the UK, and billed as being ‘in search of our cosmic origins’, it is hoped it will provide answers as to where the stars, the planets, and, ultimately where we came from. By collecting radio waves rather than optical light, ALMA can look through the dense dust clouds of deep space. This will give astronomers a glimpse of galaxies from just after the Big Bang. It can also look at how individual stars and planets are formed. This could shine a light on our creation as it is believed the elements spewed out by dying stars went on the seed the sun, the planets and, eventually, humans. It will also tell us more about where life came from by finding traces of compounds from water to chemicals similar those in DNA.
Brian Ellison, of the Science and Technology Facilities Council and ALMA’s UK project manager, said: ‘It is said we are all made of stardust. Some of the ALMA antennae bathed in red light. In the background there is the southern Milky Way on the left and the Magellanic Clouds at the top ‘ALMA will answer certain questions about where we came from.’ The telescope, which was part-built by British companies, has yet to run at full power.
But when all the dishes are operating in unison , the resulting images should be ten times sharper than those of the Hubble space telescope. To get such pictures from a single land-based radio telescope, it would have to be ten miles wide. The Chilean desert was chosen because it is one of the few places in the world where it is still possible to find a high, dry location unaffected by pollution from artificial light. Dryness is particularly important as moisture in the air absorbs the radio waves the dishes are trying to capture.

Martian Art.

The Martian industrial robotic rover curiosity developed a software errors 2-3-2013.
The hope is to let it cool down and continue on at a later date. As it carries a pair of redundant main computers in order to have a backup available if one fails the other system will open like an aircraft. Each of the computers, A-side and B-side, also has other redundant subsystems linked to just that computer. Curiosity is now operating on its B-side, as it did during part of the flight from Earth to Mars.
It operated on its A-side from before the August 2012 landing through Wednesday. 'While we are resuming operations on the B-side, we are also working to determine the best way to restore the A-side as a viable backup,' said JPL engineer Magdy Bareh, leader of the mission's anomaly resolution team. The spacecraft remained in communications at all scheduled communication windows on Wednesday, but it did not send recorded data, only current status information.
Scientific investigations by the rover have been suspended. Resumption of science investigations is anticipated within several days,' said Nasa. Earlier this week, laboratory instruments inside the rover have been analyzing portions of the first sample of rock powder ever collected from the interior of a rock on Mars.
Nasa's Curiosity rover has developed a major computer problem on Mars.Engineers have been forced to suspend the rover's work while they attempt to restore a corrupted computer. The team said the rover had been placed in a 'safe mode' to protect it. Help! The last self portrait the rover sent back before it developed a major computer fault. The ground team for NASA's Mars rover Curiosity has switched the rover to a redundant inboard computer in response to a memory issue on the computer that had been active. The intentional swap put the rover, as anticipated, into what what engineers said was a minimal-activity precautionary status called 'safe mode.'
The team is shifting the rover from safe mode to operational status over the next few days and is troubleshooting the condition that affected operations 1-2-2013.
Nasa said. The condition is related to a glitch in flash memory linked to the other, now-inactive, computer. 'As they switched computers to get to a standard state from which to begin restoring routine operations,' said Richard Cook of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, project manager for the Mars Science Laboratory Project, which built and operates Curiosity.The status information revealed that the computer had not switched to the usual daily 'sleep' mode when planned. Diagnostic work in a testing simulation at JPL indicates the situation involved corrupted memory at an A-side memory location used for addressing memory files.

Here is a weapon of war it is triple barrel cannon designed by Leonardo Da Vinci, It was found in a 15th century fort in Croatia. Da Vinci was famous for his weapons of war which were hugely in demand among the rival factions in the northern Italian cities. He was the first to invent a breech-loading machine gun with several cannons in rotation which meant soldiers could be firing one, loading another and cooling the third. The triple-barrel cannon, apparently one of his less successful designs, had been dumped in the Klicevica border fortress near the southern town of Benkovac.
A group of schoolchildren discovered it and told museum officials in the town - but its 15th century origin remained a mystery until today.  The original Da Vinci designs are regarded as forerunners for the modern machine gun. Until now the only Da Vinci cannons on display in Italy have been replicas. Leonardo was the first to measure the penetrating power of a missile, and to ascertain how to vary it by changing the attitude. Leonardo also wanted to have more effective projectiles.  In attempting to do this he designed shells filled with gunpowder which exploded upon impact. Others contained projectiles which would scatter over the area. One design saw a large ball split into two pieces as it left the mortar. This sent smaller balls in all directions and they, in turn, exploded upon contact.
When an ancient three-barreled cannon was discovered by schoolchildren, museum officials would have known they had stumbled on a rare find. But now, 40 years after the discovery of the unique weapon, they have learned just how important it is - the gun is a prototype designed by Leonardo Da Vinci himself.
The cannon was discovered in a Croatian fort, but only now has it been confirmed it was designed more than 500 years ago by the artist and inventor. Invention the multi-barrelled machine gun was a weapon with remarkable firepower. Da Vinci sketched this rolling artillery battery around 1480.

A spokesman for the Benkovac museum said: 'We have only recently confirmed the age of our cannon and that it was one designed by Da Vinci. 'As far as we know this is the only original cannon designed by [him] left in the world.' The Da Vinci bronze triple barrel canon will now be exhibited in in Benkovac. The archaeologists believe it was probably brought to the Croatian area of Dalmatia from Venice as Venetians ruled the area at that time and fought Turks for control. A typical cannon of Da Vinci's age was cast iron or bronze, had a short barrel, a short range and fired cannonballs which fitted very approximately. The first thing he did was to design breech-loading cannons as against muzzle-loading.They required a fast means of being cooled before another firing and he calculated that a vat of water would do the trick. 
 During these tests he even managed to launch a rocket-powered cannon-ball 10,000 feet into the air.
The steam cannon was another experiment. To be manufactured from copper, the breech of the canon would be built into a brazier of burning coals which would heat it to very high temperatures. Following this, a small amount of water would be injected just behind the iron ball.
When the water turned to steam it would drive the ball out under pressure.  Given that Da Vinci even quoted how large a cannonball this weapon could fire, and how far it would travel, it is quite feasible that it was actually built and test-fired. He wanted to increase the rate of firing weapons and so designed machines with multiple cannons, so they could be fired successively or all together. Two of these used racks of eleven or fourteen guns.
While the top row was being fired the next rack was loaded; at the same time, a third rack was cooling off. Leonardo da Vinci's de' Benci, this is a painting of a young Florentine lady, it is the Renaissance master only painting on permanent display in the United States. It was purchased by the national gallery in 1967 for the staggering amount $5 million it was a record price for an artwork for its time.

The small boxed inflatable furry Moyee, its an inflatable furry bed chair that is set to be a marketing success. bring a laptop or a book and keep snug in an identifiable space The inflatable ball has a base filled with water to prevent toppling and can be deflated to easily tuck away. 
Though it's not for sale, Goh's chair is currently exhibiting in the National Museum of Singapore. This gigantic furry fish ball chair would be ideal for keeping you warm during these cold winter's nights. Amazingly, new design by Jason Goh from Singapore is based on the fish balls his parents make - and a scary tale his grandma used to frighten him with. Jason, 36, who studied at the University of Glasgow, explains:
' Used to play with my food when I'm young, especially the fish balls, as my parents are both fish ball noodle sellers. Called a 'Moyee', Jason Goh's gigantic furry fish ball chair was inspired by the fish balls his parents used to make and a scary story his gran used to tell him in order to stop him playing with the food on his plate His gran used to tell him in her Teochew dialect: 'If you keep playing, the fish balls will turn into a big hairy monster and eat you up.'' Mr Goh said. 'That spiked his wild childhood imagination,
Called a 'Moyee', it is equipped with a glowing LED mood lamp, which Jason says will help the user 'sit comfortably in the cocoon-like space to read a book or chill out' because his granny used to tell me in Teochew dialect: 'If you keep playing and re frying the fish balls will turn into a big hairy monster and eat you up. The story spiked my wild childhood imagination and sent a chill down my spine. ''The Gigantic Hairy Fish Ball, Moyee, is a manifestation of my imagination on how the fish ball monster would be in my grandma's story.
' Apart from its scary look, the monster chair can be a cozy hideout for people to sit in and relax. Called a 'Moyee', it is equipped with a glowing LED mood lamp, which Jason says will help the user 'sit comfortably in the cocoon-like space to read a book or chill out'. They are usually sold at food stalls similar to hot dog stands in the United States. Fish balls are usually boiled in a spicy curry sauce or deep fried and are one of the countries most popular and representative 'street foods'. Though the chair is not for sale, Goh's chair is currently exhibiting in the National Museum of Singapore until January 27th 2013 as Art View would say it made need some heavy duty dual locking Velcro instead of a water base as most homes have carpet it is built for suburbia and its a exciting looking product even to have a picture frame inside.

Vision Or Parody.

After testing the supposed skull of Adolf Hitler which has been held by the Russians ever since soldiers recovered the Führer's burnt corpse in a ditch outside of his bunker in 1945 (they cremated it years later, except the skull and jaw) a team of scientists from the University of Connecticut has concluded that it actually couldn't be Hitler's skull at all, but that of a woman who died under the age of 40. This raises some tantalizing possibilities, which we list below in descending order of plausibility.
The Russians removed the wrong corpse from the ditch outside Hitler's bunker. The right corpse was removed, but at some point in the past 60 years it was switched, purposely or by mistake, with the skull previously thought to be Hitler's skull. The real skull is in the private collection of some rich Russian oligarch, or in a secret underground government vault. Hitler escaped the bunker and lived out the rest of his life as an unassuming shop clerk in a small German town, selling cheese and dry goods until he died without notice in the mid-seventies. Hitler was actually a woman under 40.Hitler escaped and is still walking around somewhere. It has been an assumption that Adolf Hitler and Eva Braun died in a bunker taking a lethal dose of two cyanide pills. however Eva Braun body was never recovered it has been this still remains a mystery as it been said she did the same as Adolf two days later.
